Roles within Barracloughs
In our practices you will find optometrists (or Ophthalmic Opticians / OO's) who perform sight tests, Dispensing Opticians (DO's) who help you decide which lenses would suit your needs and your lifestyle, plus they select the ideal frames and fit them once they have arrived, Optical Dispensers (OD's) who have a very similar role to DO's but in an unregistered capacity and Optical Assistants (OA's) on reception who deal with all those front of house duties.

- Advising customers on the best frames and lenses for their needs
- Ordering, setting up and assembly of spectacles
- Repairs, fittings and adjustments
- Management of stock (pricing, ordering and presentation)
- To advise customers on the care of their products
- Help achieve any targets and budgets set (bonus schemes available)
- To keep up to date with new products and services via training and staff intranet
- Supervise unqualified staff in all dispensing duties, as set out by GOC guidelines

- Additional scans and pre-screening including OCT
- Currently 40 minute tests
- No ghost clinics
- To advise customers on the care of their products
- Being commercially-minded and aware of targets
- Supervise unqualified staff, as set out by GOC guidelines where necessary
- Arranging referrals to GP's/Hospitals as and when required
- Electronic record keeping so experience of Optix patient management software is preferable but not essential as training can be given

- Greeting customers, booking appointments and answering the telephone
- Advising spectacles or contact lenses are ready
- Computer (and some manual) record keeping, completing forms, filing records
- Individual contacts with customers and suppliers
- Daily banking tasks and managing the post
- Dealing with all customer enquiries
- Interact with staff training and staff intranet
