Vision really does matter. Sight is the sense people fear losing the most, yet many of us don’t know how to look after our eyes - National Eye Health Week aims to change all that! This year's National Eye Health Week (NEHW) kicks off today and runs through to 24th September 2023, promoting the importance of good eye health and the need for regular eye tests for all of us.
A new topic each day...
Each day of National Eye Health Week focuses on a different eye health topic, with this year's highlighting a number of important issues.
NHS Eye Care & Support
Here NEHW will highlight eligibility for NHS sight tests and optical vouchers plus a look at the range of services provided by high street opticians like us, as well as the importance of routine eye tests.
Myopia and Me
This is a tween to teen campaign highlighting increasing levels of myopia (short-sightedness), why early diagnosis is important and advances in myopia management and control. This is a great topic to focus on as it is becoming an increasing problem for the youth of today, partly due to the high level of screen time each day.
Digital Eye Care
Top tips to prevent screen fatigue whilst at work, rest and play.
Eye on Mental Health
Here, NEHW explore the links between eye health and your mental well-being.
Live Well, See Well
How lifestyle factors can influence eye health. This will be supported by the publication of Vista, a 52-page consumer magazine packed with essential lifestyle advice to help you take the best care of your vision and eye health.
Vision Matters Photographic Competition & Exhibition
Building on growing evidence of the effectiveness of the arts in influencing the adoption of health enhancing behaviours.
Smoking & Sight Loss
Many smokers are still unaware of the increased danger to their sight, due to how smoking can affect blood flow to the eyes. In fact, the link between smoking and sight loss is as strong as the link between smoking and lung cancer.
