'Smart' Contact Lenses - the future gets closer!
Alcon is the eye care division of Novartis - a Swiss Pharmaceutical company who have just signed a deal with Google to license their new 'Smart Contact Lens' technology.
"It is likely to spur a range of other innovations towards miniaturising technology and using it in wearable devices to help people monitor their bodies better"These clever lenses can have the ability to monitor glucose levels in tears and report the findings to the wearer's smartphone. Alcon and Novartis are also looking into ways to treat presbyopia (long-sightedness) with the lenses.
These lenses won't be around for quite a while but the prospect of technological advances like this is very interesting.
