30 Years with Barracloughs! stars

On Saturday we said farewell to long-standing member of the team, Deborah Chambers, who retired after over 30 years of loyal service at Barracloughs.

It is incredible to think the changes that have happened in that time within the industry and within Barracloughs. However, the basic principles of an eye exam remain the same and Debbie was always incredibly diligent and thorough in the way she carried out her sight tests. This led to a huge following of patients who returned year on year because of the trust they held in Debbie’s principles and advice.

Debbie remained a loyal member of the team through thick and thin, adapting to the changes that inevitably occur over time, but always endeavouring to do the right thing for her patients and the company. We would like to thank Debbie for all her hard work over the years, her support of Barracloughs and her unending desire to do the right thing for all those patients. We would like to once again wish Debbie all the very best for the future.

Patients and colleagues alike will miss her but we are so fortunate that she leaves behind great people within the company who are able to look after the continued care of her loyal followers.

Tired of fogged lenses? stars

Wearing a facemask is now part of our daily routine but safety is priority to defeat Covid-19 and we all need to do our part. Unfortunately as you may well have experienced, wearing a facemask can cause irritation, because as you breathe you find that your lenses fog constantly.

Focusing on your safety stars

UPDATE: [04/01/2021] - WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS
We are prioritising emergency and essential appointments but we are also carrying out routine appointments. Please contact us if you are struggling with your vision or if you are overdue. We will still contact customers who are due.

Online booking is currently disabled to allow us to prioritise appointments.

Please read on to explore the new measures we have put in place to ensure your safety and the safety of our teams during these difficult times.

Delivering a 5-star service stars

When the Covid-19 pandemic first hit us, it left many of our customers struggling as they were advised not to leave their homes. Some needed repairs or were awaiting their new specs to arrive in-store, others needed their contact lenses or had concerns about deteriorating vision. Then lockdown occurred and we reluctantly had to close all stores, adding to the difficulties our customers (and ourselves) faced.

Investments to keep you safe

As soon as it is safe for us to reopen, we'll do so - and look forward to seeing you all again. When that time comes (hopefully in the not-too-distant future) you can be assured that not only your eye care will be our priority, but your safety too. During lockdown we have invested in a number of resources and equipment, ranging from Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to in-store social distancing measures such as screens and cleaning stations - and more recently, new technology to improve safety.

Time spent at home: Isolation tips for us all

Right now, we are all spending a LOT more time indoors at home, whether through self-isolation or simply abiding by the Government advice to stay home where possible. It's a concept we're not used to, and for many it can feel quite a struggle... we've all been robbed of our social needs. At Barracloughs we have put together a number of tips to help you through, from simply beating the boredom to improving your mental health during this difficult period.

Coronavirus - keeping hygiene to a maximum

UPDATE, 23 March 2020: We have made the decision to temporarily close all stores after Tuesday 23 March 2020. We need to ensure your safety and the safety of our teams.

Amid the developing Coronavirus situation, we wanted to take a moment to reassure you of the actions we are taking during these uncertain times.
